Teams and Boards

Brief Team Descriptions

Christian Fellowship

The Christian Fellowship Team promotes the spirit of goodwill, friendship and community within the Zion family and extends this spirit to our visitors. This busy team plans annual events including the Chili Cook-off, Lenten Lunches & Dinners, the Easter Egg Hunt, human and pet treats to follow the Blessing of the Animals service, Zion’s Annual Picnic and Christmas Caroling. Throughout the year the team schedules the weekly Sacred Grounds Coffee socials as well as plans various special events, receptions and luncheons.

Parish Health

The Parish Health Team offers a health care presence to the congregation. Team members meet monthly from September through May to develop ideas for health care instruction and act as a general health and wellness resource for the congregation.  They also provide blood pressure checks one Sunday a month.

Property

The Property Team oversees the maintenance, repair and replacement of the church’s physical property. Team members organize workers to perform these tasks and, where needed, obtain bids for materials or labor related to property needs. Team members also plan in advance for routine maintenance and conduct emergency repairs.

Service Ministry

The Service Ministry Team oversees a variety of activities to serve needs locally and globally. Ongoing activity is the monthly collection of items for the York Rescue Mission. Special projects occur throughout the year that require extra hands for example, making and delivering school kits or health kits to Lutheran World Relief, collecting financial contributions to Lutheran Social Services, setting up the Angel Tree to support the Salvation Army, conducting the “Zion Has Heart” campaign, selling geraniums for Lutheran Social Services, running the Lutheran Social Services Annual Auxiliary Membership Drive, raising money for World Hunger and overseeing Zion’s “You Gave Me Food” ministry.

 

Worship and Music

The Worship and Music Team provides support and resources to ensure that Zion’s worship services are conducted regularly and according to the liturgy of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Team members arrange for care of the paraments, vestments and musical instruments; ensure that hymnals and devotional materials are provided and maintained; train ushers and greeters, and maintain the scheduling of the many persons needed to serve during the four weekly worship services

Children, Youth and Family Ministry

Faith, Fun and Fellowship are the driving principles of the CYFM program at Zion;  Through Sunday school, worship and service related activities our goal is to assist families in the creation of strong Christians who will carry and live out their faith through the rest of their lives.  The youth program currently extends from K-12th grades and is always looking for creative ways to build and expand faith formative activities for the youth and families of the congregation.  The program relies heavily on volunteers to staff the various retreats and special programs that occur throughout the year.  If you are a caring adult who enjoys being involved with youth please consider getting involved in the CYFM programming at Zion.

Finance

The Finance Team prepares Zion’s annual budget on behalf of the Church Council and congregation in preparation for the annual Congregational Meeting. Upon approval of the budget, the Finance Team reviews actual revenues and expenses throughout the year in comparison to the budget. The Finance Team also coordinates the offering counting volunteers and educates new members on the financial operations of the Church.

Zion Boards

Memorial Garden Board

The Memorial Garden Board oversees the operation and maintenance of Zion’s Memorial Garden. The Board includes a total of five members including a pastor and four parishioners. To date, the Board planned and oversaw the construction of the Memorial Garden including a niche wall, scattering area, landscaping and garden areas. Future plans include a chapel and courtyard and addition of niche walls as needed.

Joyful Noise Preschool Board

The Joyful Noise Preschool Board oversees the operation of the preschool and ensures a high quality early childhood education experience for children and their families. Members of the Board include a pastor, the preschool director and parishioners. The Boards is responsible for financial operations, the annual preschool budget, fundraising and hiring preschool staff.

Other Groups

Mutual Ministry

The Mutual Ministry Team provides support and guidance, primarily to the pastors, but also to staff members and congregation members. The Team serves to resolve conflict between any combination of pastors, staff members or congregation members; provide a resource for pastors and congregation members to talk confidentially; provide support and advice for the pastors relating to personal and professional goals, and provide support regarding vision-related goals. The members of the Mutual Ministry Team are selected by the pastors and Council President.

Office Volunteers

The Office Volunteers Team helps in the church office during the morning hours Monday through Friday. Their duties include answering the phone, checking attendance cards from worship services, calling to get updates for the bulletins, typing the bulletins for worship services, collating the bulletins and cleaning and straightening the sanctuary for worship services.

Personnel

The Personnel Team oversees annual staff performance reviews, makes salary recommendations for the annual budget and assists with developing position descriptions for Zion’s staff. Team members work closely with the Parish Administrator and meet about four times a year. The members of the Personnel Team are selected by the pastors and Council President.
