Women’s Ministry

All women of the church are considered to be part of Women’s Ministry at Zion!

Spring Retreat: Nawakwa, Zinn-Tozer Lodge, April 18-21, 2024 HOPE – a little word full of big promises! What gives you hope? What diminishes your hope? What can we learn about hope from God’s word? These are questions that will be discussed in order to encourage one another at the spring Women’s Retreat. Details:

  • Who: All women aged 18 to 99 are welcome!
  • When: Thurs., April 18 – Sun., April 21, 2024; Main event Sat., April 20, 9:00am-3:00pm (You are welcome to stay for dinner at 5:30pm and into the evening.)
  • Where: Camp Nawakwa, Arendtsville, PA
  • Cost: (Payment due at retreat. Cash or checks made out to “ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH” with “Women’s Retreat” in the memo line)
    • 3 nights – $140
    • 2 nights – $100
    • 1 night – $60
    • Day – $20 
  • Menu:
    • Breakfast: Blueberry oatmeal bake, sweet potato bake, egg casserole, yogurt, fruit, bagels
    • Lunch – chicken tortilla soup, and 2 others, salad, bread
    • Dinner – mac and cheese, sausage (hot and mild), peppers and onions

  • Before you come, think about a short story of hope in your life. If you have a picture that brings you hope, you may bring it along, or draw such a picture.

Fall Retreat – Kamp Kirchenwald, SchreiberHaus Lodge, Oct. 4-6, 2024

  • Who: All women aged 18 to 99 are welcome!
  • When: Fri., Oct. 4 – Sun., Oct. 6 (Main event Sat., Oct. 5)
  • Where: Kamp Kirchenwald, Lebanon, PA
  • Cost: (Payment due at retreat. Cash or checks made out to “ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH” with “Women’s Retreat” in the memo line)
    • 2 nights – $145
    • 1 night – $80
    • Day – $20 

Schreiberhaus Lodge

Sample Schedule:

  • Thursday / Friday are days on your own, including any meals. Enjoy the company and relax!
  • On Sat., the day begins at 9:00.
    • After lunch there is free time and a worship service.
    • Dinner is at 5:30.
    • Weather permitting, a campfire at 7:00.
    • Stay as long as you like or leave when you need.
  • Sun. morning, worship at 9:30.
    • Clean-up, shared by all.
    • Depart by 1:00pm.
  • Meals: Saturday meals and Sun. breakfast are included in the price. For other meals, participants bring their own food (may prepare in kitchen, or bring pre-made and warm up), or can go out to eat.
  • Menu for Sat.: Coffee/tea provided. May bring own, as well as other drink. (Water at the camp is good.)

    • If you have special dietary needs, please feel free to bring your own food.
    • There will be an opportunity to donate a few food items, through Sign-Up Genius (emailed to attendees two weeks prior), to help keep costs down. (Optional – no obligation!)
  • Attendee list: Those who confirm attendance will be sent a list of other attendees and what day they will arrive in order to facilitate possible carpooling. Or, grab a friend and come together! It is not necessary to be a member of Zion. (Deb can assist if you need help with this.)
  • Options: These are things that are not necessary, but that could enhance your experience.
    • A lawn chair for campfire or outside meditation. (You are welcome to also bring a yoga mat.)
    • If the weekend is chilly, you may want a blanket or warm coat to sit outside.
    • Sturdy shoes if you like to hike. (Many beautiful, wooded trails.)
    • Possibly a mattress topper or extra sleeping bag for more comfort.
    • Some women like to bring a fan or sound machine for white noise. The sleeping area is in one long hall, separated from the gathering area by a small passageway and a door.  We ask women who stay up later to converse to please use the big meeting room or dining hall space.
